Half Cherry/Half Pineapple Dump Cake

I’ve had a hankerin’ for a good ole dump cake for several months now so I went ahead and made one this evening.  Dump cakes are so easy.  There’s really no reason not to try one, unless you are on a diet and this dessert will TOTALLY blow that all to hell!  But hey- you deserve something yummy today so fuggedaboutit and enjoy yourself with some scrumptious dump cake.

P.S.  The house smells SO WONDERFUL!  I had to keep the kids at bay until the cake cooled enough to eat, LOL

Half Cherry/Half Pineapple Dump Cake

Ingredients:
  • one   21 oz can cherry pie filling
  • one   20 oz can pineapple chunks
  • 2  boxes yellow cake mix (white will work too)
  • 1  & 1/2 sticks butter (not margarine!)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan with butter.  Dump can of cherry pie filling on one side of the pan and dump the pineapple chunks on the other side.  Dump the cake mixes on top of the fruit (no need to stir anything!).  Smooth the dry cake mix until level.  Cut butter into small, square pats and lay pats of butter evenly over top of dry cake mix.  Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes.  Let cool before cutting.  Serve warm.

OMGosh I wish I could give y’all a piece.  Not sure how something so simple to make can taste so complex and mouth-watering.  Comfort food at its finest!  Both sides are delightful but I think I prefer the cherry side the most.  The kiddos favored pineapple.  You can always try a different type of canned fruit or add nuts if you wish.   When serving you can top it with whipped cream, ice cream or anything else you want.  Feel free to experiment!  For now, I like mine just the way it is.  :)
